Interproximal Reduction (IPR) is a powerful tool for controlling tooth proclination and reducing crowding. For patients with a deep Curve of Spee (COS), aligning crowded teeth can cause proclination, leading to gingival recession and unsightly results. But fear not, Dental Heroes, IPR comes to the rescue! IPR can be done with manual strips or an IPR bur. Strips are affordable, user-friendly, and available in various sizes. However, they can be less comfortable for the patient and slower to use. On the other hand, an IPR bur offers speed and greater comfort for the patient. But beware, it’s pricier and may remove more than desired if not handled with care.
Regardless of the method, using a desensitizer post-IPR is an option! And my go-to cheek retractor? The Optiview Blue Cheek Retractor.
